Plan before committing
Species compatibility, root conditions, soil, microclimate, site access and the design intent belong in the early discussion.

Founded in California in 1996, Hess Tree Company grew from hands-on specimen tree sourcing into a business shaped by complex projects, dedicated people, and a respect for living landscapes.
Hess began with a clear vision: give mature trees a meaningful place in the built environment, supported by careful planning, horticultural knowledge and reliable execution. Our early work combined specimen supply with the practical challenges of preparing, transporting and placing large trees.
For more than two decades, large-tree relocation projects shaped our experience. Steep hillsides, constrained urban sites, heavy root balls and crane-intensive placements demanded resourceful crews, specialized equipment and close coordination. That field background continues to inform the way we approach every new inquiry.
As the work expanded beyond California, so did the scale of the projects. Our experience spans private estates, resort and hotel developments, golf courses, commercial landscapes and public spaces, with supply work reaching national and international markets.
Today, our sales focus is date palms: Medjool, Deglet Noor and Zahidi. We source date palms through grower relationships and coordinate project-specific delivery.
Our people are central to the Hess story. Skilled field professionals travel, solve difficult problems and take pride in the details that a finished landscape may never reveal.
There is continuity across generations, too. Sons of team members from the early years have stepped into the field, carrying forward a culture of loyalty, craftsmanship and shared purpose. Behind the crews are families whose support makes the travel, long hours and commitment possible.
That is the legacy we value: people who care about one another, the work, and the living trees entrusted to them.

Clear scopes, practical sequencing and informed recommendations help owners, designers and contractors make decisions with confidence.
Watering, drainage, stabilization and monitoring matter beyond the day a tree is planted.
